REMEMBERING
SEPTEMBER 11TH
This 9/11, we're taking a moment to honor the brave men and women who race to the frontlines and help others every day.

To our Spartan first responders who embody what it means to be fearless, selfless, and caring on and off the course: We applaud you.

Louie Hernandez
Louie Hernandez served in the US Coast Guard for eight years from '96 - '04. He served on the Cutter Dauntless as a boarding team member, then, at the Coast Guard Institute where he helped implement online testing to make it easier for coasties to advance their careers.

"I loved every minute of it," he says. "One of my OCR shirts has the Coast Guard shield on it."

Jennifer Niese Navara
Jennifer Niese Navara served in the Marine Corps for eight years, and has found a sense of belonging in the Spartan community.

"After one race, I was hooked on Spartan races," she says. "Each race brought a new level of mental strength that continued to remind me what I'm capable of."

LJ Alexander
Firefighter and AEMT LJ Alexander knows the value of hard work, teamwork, and helping others.

"It's really rewarding to get to help people when they are in need," he says. "I work with a lot of great people who make it barely seem like work most days. Best job I ever had!"

Billy Richards
Renowned for carrying the American Flag at his races to honor military, law enforcement, and first responders, Billy is also a decorated veteran. He served in the Marines and Army, and holds the record for the most Spartan Trifectas by a male athlete with 32 in 2023. Despite undergoing hip resurfacing surgery in July, Billy is training for a comeback. Look for him in 2025!

In remembrance of those who lost their lives 23 years ago, we invite you to hit the road today and tackle 9.11 miles of pavement, trail, or whatever path you choose.

Join the Spartan Family as we take this challenge on together.
