| | WHAT WE'RE WATCHING | | ๐บ๐ธ House GOP expedites Trump's Manifest Destiny. Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD) introduced the "Panama Canal Repurchase Act," allowing the president to negotiate to bring the canal back under US control for a symbolic $1. At the same time, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introduced a bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America," emphasizing US sovereignty and aligning with Trump's agenda to counter cartel activity and foreign threats in the region. | ⏱ Republicans push for congressional term limits. A joint resolution led by Sen. Ted Cruz proposes a constitutional amendment to limit US senators to two terms and House members to three, aiming to constrain career politicians and bring more accountability to Washington. Cruz emphasized the Founding Fathers' vision of citizen legislators, urging swift ratification by the states to make term limits a reality. | ๐ฅ Enormous costs of the CA wildfires put the insurance markets at risk. The devastating Los Angeles wildfires may force California to become the primary insurer for the damage, leaving the state government to shoulder a $431 billion burden. Experts warn the system is nearing collapse, with rate hikes and state intervention urgently needed to prevent financial disaster. | ⚖️ Trump filed an emergency petition to block his sentencing. President-elect Donald Trump petitioned the Supreme Court to halt his January 10 sentencing in the New York v. Trump case, arguing the trial violated his presidential immunity and due process rights. His legal team claims the prosecution, led by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, was politically motivated and relied on flawed evidence from discredited sources. |

| *Indicates content from our sponsors | | MY THOUGHTS | Only Unconditional Surrender, Mark. | Good morning. Mark Zuckerberg recently admitted that the "fact-checkers" on Instagram and Facebook were weaponized to silence millions of Americans. The European Union and American liberal outlets behind these fact-checks (like the Associated Press) — designed solely to censor you — are now flipping out, trying to deny it. | Meanwhile, Zuckerberg is rebranding himself as the cool tech guy: eating steaks, competing in martial arts, and prepping his bunker. | Here's what I think: it's nice that Zuckerberg is admitting this was wrong. But under his direct watch — and he runs Meta like an absolute tyrant — he orchestrated one of the most horrific violations of First Amendment rights in American history. | I was censored hard by Instagram, over and over again, while pouring everything into Upward News to spread the truth about the biggest stories of 2020-2021: BLM, George Floyd, Kyle Rittenhouse, the pandemic, the vaccines, January 6 … the list goes on. | Tens of millions of Americans were censored, too — people who were justifiably concerned, afraid, and searching for answers. I'll never forget it. | Mark may be kissing the ring now, but without formal punishment for him and those responsible, or having systems in place to ensure this never happens again, it's only a matter of time before it does happen again. | |

| | THE STATES | Biblical wildfires scorch LA amid Democratic mismanagement | | What's happening: Los Angeles County is battling four raging wildfires that have burned tens of thousands of acres, forced nearly 70,000 to evacuate, and left the region in a state of emergency. The largest of the four — the Palisades Fire — has already consumed 16,000 acres, while the Eaton Fire has grown to 10,000. Dry vegetation and hurricane-force winds make containment nearly impossible. | Apocalyptic scenes: The images coming out of the affected areas show complete devastation, with miles of houses having been burned to the ground. The dazzling Pacific Palisades has been reduced to something resembling a war zone, with stacks of rubble and abandoned vehicles lining the streets as residents fled the fires on foot. Wildfires are not unusual in Southern California, but many are left wondering how the state was not better prepared.
| Leadership failure? As fires spread, LA Mayor Karen Bass (D) is under fire herself — 7,400 miles away in Ghana on an official trip. Many, including former Republican mayoral candidate Rick Caruso, are slamming city leadership, calling attention to empty fire hydrants and a lack of resources as firefighters struggle to protect homes and businesses. | Fire chief under scrutiny: Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley, the first woman and openly LGBT leader in the department's history, is being criticized as a "diversity hire" more focused on DEI initiatives than wildfire prevention. One of her stated goals is "creating…a culture that values diversity, inclusion, and equity." Further, some online have pointed to a "racial equity plan" put out by the city's fire department to end "systemic, institutional, and structural racism" as evidence of left-wing ideology being prioritized over fire safety. Elon Musk commented, "They prioritized DEI over saving lives and homes."
| Questionable moves: Mayor Bass has also drawn ire for cutting over $17 million from the city's fire department in the 2024-2025 budget. A story also resurfaced on how the LA County Fire Department quizzically donated surplus materials to Ukraine in 2022, though the department is currently experiencing a shortage of personnel to contain the fires. | | California's mismanagement: Years of poor forest management in California have created literal tinderboxes, with overgrown brush and dead vegetation fueling fast-spreading wildfires. Environmental concerns have delayed controlled burns and brush clearing, and the state has a dramatic water shortage, now preventing firefighters from controlling the fires. Just before the 2024 election, President-elect Donald Trump called attention to some of these exact problems. | Why it matters: California's wildfires aren't just natural disasters — they highlight the consequences of mismanagement, misplaced priorities, and leadership failures. As residents flee, homes burn, and firefighters struggle desperately to contain the fires, California voters may start looking for a change in leadership. | | In the media | From the left: Criticism of Los Angeles leadership during the wildfires… | | ๐ 360 Media View: Members-Only | Become a member to the 360 media view for this article — where we show you how different media outlets across the spectrum are framing the same story. | |

| | ๐ฌ COMMENT OF THE DAY | From Meta Reads the Room and Opts for Free Speech: | "Trump's actions to welcome changes made by social media platforms that have been major players in censorship of truth, and promotion of malicious Deep State lies, is dangerous in that it preserves their power to influence national opinion. On the other hand, it could be a smart move to use those media platforms to set the record straight with the people that they have manipulated and misled for so many years." — Kate | Paid members get to join the daily discussion |
