| | | WHAT WE'RE WATCHING | | ⚖️ DHS sues Maryland judges over deportation delays. The Department of Homeland Security filed suit against all 15 judges on the Maryland federal bench, challenging a policy that automatically pauses deportations for two days when migrants file legal challenges. The administration also requested that all judges recuse themselves. This direct legal attack signals growing frustration with what the White House sees as judicial obstruction of immigration enforcement. | π DOJ sues Minnesota over college tuition for illegals. The Justice Department sued Minnesota over its "Dream Act," which gives illegal aliens access to in-state tuition and state financial aid. Attorney General Pam Bondi argued the law violates federal statutes and the Constitution. This move follows a similar DOJ victory in Texas and marks a broader push from the Trump administration to prioritize citizens over illegals for state benefits. | π₯ US and Israel claim major setback for Iran's nuclear program. Both Israeli officials and the CIA have confirmed President Trump's statement that recent US and Israeli strikes destroyed key Iranian nuclear facilities. The crucial Fordow site was declared inoperable, with Iran's nuclear ambitions "set back by years," according to the Israeli military. This public agreement between US and Israeli intelligence directly contradicts the media's "insider" scoop that the damage was not grave. | π NATO chief calls Trump "daddy" after blunt ceasefire remarks. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte remarked that "Daddy has to sometimes use strong language," after Trump dropped an f-bomb to criticize Israel and Iran for violating a ceasefire. Rutte then praised Trump's leadership on pushing NATO members to increase defense spending and for taking military action in Iran. The comment reflects a shift in tone among European leaders, who now appear more willing to publicly support Trump. |

| | | THE MAIN STORY | New York Dems go socialist | | WHAT'S HAPPENING_ | Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani has defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo in the New York City mayoral Democratic primary. Mamdani will proceed to the general election, where he will face, among others, incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who is running as an independent. | The primary results revealed stark demographic divides: Mamdani dominated among young, white, college-educated voters in wealthy and middle-income neighborhoods. Cuomo won decisively with working-class, lower-income, and black voters. | | _THE FACTS_ | Mamdani won counties with median incomes above $117,000 by an average of 13 points, and also beat Cuomo in middle-class areas. Cuomo captured counties with median incomes below $62,000 by 13 points. Black voters, usually more moderate, backed Cuomo by nearly 20 points. Wealthy neighborhoods like Cobble Hill and Park Slope gave Mamdani overwhelming support. Working-class areas in the South Bronx and Eastern Brooklyn rallied behind Cuomo. Mamdani's campaign advocated for taxpayer-funded sex change surgeries and government-run grocery stores. Current Mayor Eric Adams labeled Mamdani a "snake oil salesman" who "would say anything to get elected." Rep. Laura Gillen (D-NY), in a statement released after Mamdani's victory, warned that Mamdani is "too extreme to lead" New York City. Mamdani's campaign mobilized an unprecedented 50,000 volunteers, driving a five percent increase in turnout. The November election will include Mamdani, Adams, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and independent Jim Walden, with Cuomo considering an independent run. Unlike the primary, which uses ranked choice voting, the election in November will use the standard first-past-the-post system — meaning whoever comes in first, wins.
