Who we are and why we're doing this

Brandon Goldman, Managing Editor, 28

Brandon was raised on NPR, The New York Times, and The Daily Show. He was the kind of guy who knocked doors for Democrats and posted about Bernie Sanders on Facebook.

While interning for a Republican state rep in college, he started listening to Ben Shapiro—and for the first time, he heard ideas the media had never explained—only mocked or distorted.

It lit a fire in him. He saw firsthand how the media misrepresents the Right and how deeply that misinformation shapes politics. He joined Upward News in early 2024 because he was tired of seeing the fake narratives win.

Anthony Constantini, Foreign News Editor, 31

Anthony's career started at the National Republican Senatorial Committee during the 2016 election.

Then he decided to see the world outside of America and moved abroad. He saw diplomacy and international affairs from the front lines—learning how global politics plays out in real life. What he saw terrified him: disconnected foreign policy "experts" who treated war like a game, ignoring the cost to real people back home.

He joined Upward News to change that and to make complex global issues readable, relatable, and relevant to all of us—because we should know where our money goes and why our soldiers are sent to fight.

Maeve O'Brien, Operations, 23

Maeve keeps this operation alive. She joined Upward in 2021, during the height of COVID madness, media censorship, and the fact-check wars. At the time, she was a journalism major trying to make sense of the world—and wanted to get the truth out.

She's now getting her master's at Vanderbilt to become a Nurse Midwife and Family Nurse Practitioner. She even teaches pilates.

I was on a safe path—software engineer, solid job, comfortable future. But something didn't sit right. My parents fled Soviet communism for freedom. They raised me to love this country—but never expected me to fight for it.

When I saw America unravel, watching the media lie and brainwash my friends, family, and colleagues, I walked away from tech and poured everything into building Upward News.

Now, I do a bit of everything—writing, editing, managing, problem-solving, making sure it all doesn't fall apart (even though we get pretty close sometimes.) There's no alternative. We have a country to save.

So, how are we doing?

We're a tiny team up against billion-dollar giants. What we're doing isn't just hard, it's nearly impossible. Most independent news outlets don't make it. Frankly, many people in the industry love us, but expect us to fold too.
