| | | | WHAT WE'RE WATCHING | | ๐ฅ RFK Jr. took heat in an explosive Senate hearing. The Health and Human Services Secretary took incoming fire from all the Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee. He faced criticism from Republican Sens. John Barrasso (WY) and Bill Cassidy (LA) over vaccine policy shifts, but often fired back, leading to fiery exchanges. | ๐ The House will investigate Jan. 6 — again. This week, the GOP's House majority voted to reconvene a new committee to investigate the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Democrats once used the committee to target Trump and Republicans under Biden. But now, with Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) holding the gavel, conservatives aim to uncover why security was so lax. | ๐ช Trump is taking steps to rename the Defense Department. An executive order President Trump will sign later today allows Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to use "Secretary of War" as a secondary title, along with "Department of War" as a secondary title for the department. However, the department's name was changed by an act of Congress, meaning Congress would have to officially rename it. | ๐ Trump's control of DC's police ends next week. The president is only allowed to seize control of the capital for 30 days. Congress can expand it, but neither the House nor the Senate is planning on doing so, as Senate Democrats would block any expansion. Plus, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has said she is more willing to work with Trump now, even without an emergency. |
