✅ Senate Republicans advance $70B immigration package. The Senate voted 53-46 to start considering a package containing roughly $70 billion to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Border Patrol through 2029. |
→ The vote came after weeks of delay over Trump's proposed $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization fund," which the acting Attorney General said Tuesday the administration would not pursue. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) plans to file an amendment blocking creation of the fund, saying the administration's assurances aren't enough. |
🗳️ House Republicans break with Trump on Iran war powers. The House of Representatives passed a Democratic-led resolution 215-208 that would limit Trump's authority to wage war in Iran, with four Republicans joining Democrats. The resolution directs Trump to remove forces from hostilities except those necessary for defense against an imminent attack. |
🗣️ CBS fires Scott Pelley after he attacked new leadership. The longtime 60 Minutes correspondent was fired for cause one day after he accused editor-in-chief Bari Weiss of attempting to "murder" the show. Pelley hijacked a staff meeting to disparage new boss Nick Bilton, calling Weiss unqualified and claiming she was "brought in to kill" the program. |
📕 Democrats are savaging Jill Biden's new memoir. Former staffers and party strategists have criticized the ex-first lady's book for relitigating 2024 at the worst possible time. Her claim that she thought Joe Biden was having a stroke during the Trump debate has drawn particular scorn, since she congratulated him afterward and took him to a Waffle House photo op. Her own former press secretary said the book has "done her more harm than good." |

Protests erupt over Henry Nowak murder |

_WHAT’S HAPPENING_ |
An 18-year-old British student named Henry Nowak was stabbed five times by Vickrum Digwa, a Sikh man, in Southampton, England, on December 3, 2025. When police arrived, Digwa and his family falsely claimed Nowak had racially abused him and knocked off his turban. |
Officers believed the attacker's story over the victim's pleas for help, handcuffing the dying teenager as he repeatedly told them he'd been stabbed and couldn't breathe. Nowak lost consciousness while restrained and died at the scene. Digwa was convicted of murder on May 28 and sentenced to life in prison. |
The case has sparked nationwide outrage after bodycam footage was released showing officers dismissing Nowak's cries for help. |

Henry Nowak was stabbed five times walking home from a night out — the chest wound alone pierced his lung and severed a major vein. His attacker, Digwa, used an eight-inch Sikh ceremonial knife, which UK law permits Sikhs to carry.

After the attack, Digwa filmed Nowak's blood trail on his phone, then called his mother, who retrieved the murder weapon and hid it at their home. Digwa and his brother told police that Nowak had launched a drunken racist attack, knocked off his turban, and grabbed his hair. Prosecutors later proved it was a fabrication. Officers handcuffed Nowak and dragged him across the pavement. He told them nine times he couldn't breathe and four times he'd been stabbed. One officer replied, "I don't think you have, mate."

Police only began CPR after Nowak lost consciousness. A helicopter doctor arrived, but Nowak was declared dead at the scene. Digwa was never handcuffed — at arrest or at the station. Officers reportedly let him choose his own food from the kitchen while being held on a murder charge.

Elon Musk offered to fund a wrongful death lawsuit for the Nowak family, drawing explicit comparisons to George Floyd and noting that Nowak's death has received a fraction of the attention. Hundreds gathered outside Southampton Central Police Station on June 2, chanting Nowak's final words — "I can't breathe" — and demanding accountability. Some violent clashes broke out between outraged protesters and the police.
