It was Thomas Jefferson who wrote, "our liberty depends on the freedom of the press."

The founders of our nation established three branches of government with appropriate checks and balances to ensure that the true power always lay in the hands of the people.

The press has often been referred to as the "fourth branch," holding the leaders of our nation to account and speaking out the sentiment of the American people.

As Gallup tracks Americans' trust in media, recent conclusions are sobering: "Just as Americans' trust in the three branches of government is faltering, so too is their confidence in the fourth estate — the media."

Today, many news outlets have abdicated their role as the voice of accountability and their responsibility to speak for the people.

The Sun is restoring that time-honored tradition.

Since 1833, the Sun has stood for principled journalism that adheres to the highest standards and voices the principles that Americans have historically treasured.

Join us as we restore the accountability and straightforward truth-telling that the "fourth branch" has largely lost.
