Sula by Toni Morrison I just re-read Morrison's classic tale of female friendship, and I cried the whole way through. If, like me, you only read this novel in high school or college, I implore you to pick it up again as an adult. It's incredible how much wisdom Morrison was able to pack into this short, propulsive masterpiece. Read the plot Mama Day by Gloria Naylor If you've ever heard of Gloria Naylor, it's probably because Oprah adapted her novel The Women of Brewster Place. Besides that, I worry she's been mostly forgotten. But if you love breathtaking romances, dark magic, small towns, and fierce women, you'll 100% love Mama Day. Read the plot Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Thirteen years ago, I was freshly out of college and this novel was everywhere. I picked it up because of FOMO and quickly fell so in love with it, I physically could not put it down. Trust me, it was—and continues to be—worth the hype!
