16 players were granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the NCAA on Thursday, returning for the 2026-27 college football season with a fifth year of eligibility.
Most notable among them is former LSU EDGE Jack Pyburn. Pyburn is currently on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp roster and posted two sacks in their most recent preseason game. Standout players from Ole Miss, Notre Dame, South Carolina, and more are also included.
Players currently on NFL rosters have expressed an interest in being released from their NFL contracts, according to attorney Ryan Downton, and NFL teams that release them by September 1 would be allowed to join a college football roster under the TRO.
Pete Nakos has the full rundown on what the decision means and the full list of players who could be returning, including one defending conference Player of the Year.
