WEEKEND RECAP BUTCHER BOX
San Diego, California
San Diego kicked off the 2025 Honor Series in epic fashion, welcoming over 6,000 adult racers and 600 kids to a weekend charged with high energy and blistering SoCal heat. This race marked the start of the Honor Series, which honors and celebrates the military and first responder community. Racers who completed the event earned a limited-edition Honor Series medal as a symbol of their grit and service.

The energy was high, the competition fierce, and the San Diego crowd brought the heat.
Munich, Germany
Spartan Munich kicked off the 2025 Germany/Austria season with a powerful start inside the legendary Olympiapark, the site of the 1972 Summer Olympics. Sunny skies and crisp air made for near-perfect race conditions, fueling fierce competition—especially in the men's Elite heat, where Ihar Harbunou edged out Petr Vinicky by just two seconds. The energy was high, the history unmistakable, and the season is officially underway. Congratulations to our Elite podium finishers in the first race of the Germany/Austrian National Series:

Women:
🥇 Klara Lokajickova 58:29
🥈 Helena Schuster 59:09
🥉 Claudia Bongiovanni 1:01:00

Men:
🥇 Ihar Harbunou 45:58
🥈 Petr Vinicky 46:00
🥉 Matthias Graute 47:17
Gubbio, Italy
Spartans stormed into the heart of Italy to kick off the 2025 Italy National Series in Gubbio with a Beast that lived up to its name. Saturday brought sun, Sunday brought rain, and the course delivered everything from steep climbs to slick descents through ancient stone trails. Podium shakeups kept the competition raw, as the 2024 Beast champ dropped to third, and rising forces Marta Marraghini and Cecilia Catolla charged into second in both the Beast and Super. A long-time Spartan fanatic even reports, "The venue is everything you would want to feel if you had never visited Italy and wanted a taste of it." Gubbio didn't hold back and neither did the athletes.
Shanghai, China
Shanghai brought the chaos for Stop 2 of the China National Series, as heavy rain and wind transformed Chunhuaqiuse Park into a mud-drenched battlefield. Racers tore through farmland, slick grass, and churned-up dirt roads, while the new Athena's Traverse obstacle made its first-ever appearance in China. The conditions were brutal, but the grit was unmatched—fans showed up, and so did the 26,000 viewers who tuned in live to watch the action unfold.
Szombathely, Hungary
Szombathely brought history and grit to the 2025 Central European Series, with racers tearing through the sunlit streets of this medieval market town. The course carved straight through the city's historic core, blending ancient stone with raw challenge in true Spartan style. Jakub Kolář and Kubaščíková Alžbeta claimed top spots in the Super, setting the tone for the CEU Series ahead. But it wasn't just about the podium. Spartans showed up for more than the race, rallying during the Charity Heat to raise money for a local animal shelter.
