The rare battlefield map by A.J. Houston
The San Jacinto Battlefield Map | | | A hair over a century after his father won the Battle of San Jacinto, Andrew Jackson Houston, the second child of Sam and Margaret, published a book on the Texas Revolution. He had been the superintendent of the battlefield for fourteen years at that point. He saw the value of possessing his father's papers and used them as the chief source material for his book. Houston's book was a special piece of Texana because five hundred limited edition copies came with eleven maps, each illustrating a part of the Texas Revolution. This is one of them. | | | We were the first to reproduce his composite of the Alamo compound and are the first to bring Houston's map of the San Jacinto Battlefield to you. This historical snapshot shows where the Texian and Mexican Armies were the moment before the battle commenced. It shows how the terrain of Peggy McCormick's land shaped this pivotal moment in our history. Zavala and Burnet's places are noted. SIZE MATTERS I've heard your feedback about lacking the precious wall real estate for all this Texas history. Only a person who lives in a windowless mansion would have room to hang it all. So I made A.J. Houston's battlefield 9 x 12" - large enough to be easily read, small enough to fit in a standard size frame you can perch on your desk. | | | I know I'm early on a San Jacinto offering this year. I have a special article I'm working on for that remembrance, so I shifted the calendar around a bit to make room for all that's happening this April. God & Texas, Michelle | | | |
