Refrain from Using the Word "Growth" During an Interview Many times we are asked "what type of position are you looking for?" or "what are you looking for in a new job?" Avoid using the word "growth" which is a very common answer. Especially in the first stages of the process, you are being pre-screened by the person who's job you could be "growing" into, as we interview "up" a level each time we meet a set of criteria. That person could be asking themselves, "if they do grow and there's only my job between their position and the department head, where does that leave me?". Instead, answer "you would like a position where you can take on additional responsibility." It's simply a matter of semantics. This is much less threatening and won't raise the same red flag.
